Makeup Doctor’s Top Tips

As a makeup coach, I work with the everyday makeup wearer who are at a bit of a loss when it comes to their beauty routines.

You don’t need to have the most expensive products or follow every blogger in the business to achieve a look that is authentically you – I specialise in showing people exactly how to utilise the makeup and skincare products that they already use.

Here are some of my top tips for getting the most out of your makeup.

1. Look after your skin

Whilst it’s all well and good to show people exactly how to contour or which way they should be doing their eyeliner, the first simple step is ensuring skin is as clean and as smooth as possible.

Starting with liquid cleanser will ensure the cleanest skin, and remove every bit of dirt – leaving skin squeaky clean! Following this, moisturise to hydrate skin. This again helps to smooth your face, giving you the best possible surface for makeup application.

2. Shop around

Every person I work with has different needs for their skin, so it is important to find a product that is tailored to your face.

This includes your skincare products as well as your makeup – what works for one person might be unsuitable for another. Even though we all love a good recommendation, choose a product that suits you.

3. Learn about your face

Just like with buying makeup, you should be using your cosmetics in a way that compliments your face shape. For example, contour in places where shadows would naturally occur and highlight only the highest parts of your face such as your cheekbones and the cupid’s bow (above your lip).

4. Love yourself

Be yourself! I honestly believe that when you feel comfortable in your makeup, you feel the happiest. That inner confidence will naturally ooze from you, and that is real beauty.

Let’s face it, we aren’t ever going to look like a long-lost Kardashian sibling, so why not embrace your own beauty? If you feel good on the inside, your own self with shine through.

Like Oscar Wilde said, ‘Be yourself – everyone else is already taken’.
