This week, a lovely new bunch of you are joining us here in the greatest town in the entire world as you embark upon your journeys at Burnley College and UCLan.

First things first – welcome! For those of you who haven’t heard of Burnley Social before, we won’t hold it against you. We’re here to show you the best places to eat, drink, dance and play in the area.

We remember what it was like being a fresher – for some of us it really wasn’t that long ago – so we want to share with you our top tips for the next chapter in your life!

1. Get to know the campus

No one is going to tell you off for having a wander round the campus, especially during Fresher’s Week. Familiarise where your classes sre and the important spots (library, toilets, pub) so when classes start, you’ll already be an expert.

2. Go to the Fresher’s Fair

All. The. Free. Stuff. ‘Nuff said, right? Freshers’ Fairs are a great opportunity to get to know your fellow students and find out what sort of clubs, societies and activities are available for you to join. Plus, there is usually food and flyers for student discounts – winner winner

3. Work out a budget

Okay we know this one is a bit boring, but budgeting is important! It is very easy to blow your student loan in the Boot and Shoe on the first night, but you have to make your money last. You’ve got food shops, transport and student supplies you need to buy each week.

4. Make friends with your flatmates

If you’re moving here then chances are you’re staying in student accommodation. You will be living with your flatmates for about 40 weeks out of the year, so it would be a bit rubbish if you stayed in your room the whole time. Say hello! Make friends! After all, isn’t that what uni is all about?

5. Follow Burnley Social

This one is pretty much a no brainer. Burnley Social is your one-stop shop on all things Burnley. We know the goings on of the friendliest town in the UK and can point you in the right direction for everything from the best vegan roast dinners to where you should be going for a fresh trim.

Welcome to Burnley – but not as you know it.
