Burnley FC are now using artificial intelligence (AI) to aid the scouting of new players.
Using a data-driven approach, talent identification platform AiSCOUT have partnered with the club to search for players 14+ who could join the academy.
There is a free mobile app which can be used to upload footage on. Scores from specific drills will then be collected using the AI so that the information can be used by scouts.
Players that stand out as “exceptional” will be invited to a formal academy trials day later in the year and may then go on to join the academy.
ALK Capital – the new owners of Burnley FC – invested in AiSCOUT last August, so it’s great to see it going to use on our town’s beloved football club.
Chairman Alan Pace has said: “This is a first opportunity for us to introduce new data-led technologies into the football club and promote Burnley to the wider football world by giving aspirational young players across the world an opportunity.
“With the pandemic currently leading a suspension of youth football in Lancashire and across the UK, this trial represents an open and inclusive opportunity for football players to complete a set of drills in their own environment that could end with them being scouted by a Premier League club.”
And who knows, we might have the next big football star right here in our hometown.
